What is Amoxil?
Amoxil (full name - Amoxicillin) is a penicillin antibiotic commonly used for treating bacterial infections
of various kinds. The class of antibiotics Amoxil belongs to involves different penicillin derivatives in the
agents’ molecular structures. The spread of bacterial infection relies on the synthesis and strength of the
bacterial cell wall, and Amoxil is considered efficient because it inhibits this synthesis. While it is far from
the first antibiotic invented, being introduced in the 1960’s, Amoxil has become a popular choice due to
its impressive absorption rate and suitability for children.
What are the indications for using Amoxil?
Amoxil has proven to be successful in treating various diseases and infections, including:
- Otitis media: a systematic inflammation of the ear
- Strep throat: a contagious infection with fever-like symptoms
- Pneumonia: a serious inflammation of the lungs that affects millions worldwide
- Lyme borreliosis: a disease carried by ticks which affects the whole nervous system.
- Other infections, such as skin infections, urinary tract infections, Salmonella infections, bacterial endocarditis and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
What is the dosage of Amoxil?
Amoxil comes in several different forms. Capsules sold contain 250 and 500 mg, while tablets usually
come in increments of 500 mg or 875 mg. This drug should be kept in a cool, dry place that is mostly
impervious to sunlight. The recommended dosage is based on the underlying condition being treated
and the age/weight of the patient. In the most common cases, treatment should continue for at least
ten days and at least three days after symptoms of the infection fade. Most Amoxil packages will have a
diagram displaying correct dosages based on individual factors, but if you have trouble determining
treatment instructions, you should contact a doctor.

drugs or suffer from any of the conditions listed above, it is important that you consult a doctor before commencing treatment.
