What is Generic Cefaclor?
This is a 2nd generation cephalosporin antibiotic which is used for treatment purpose of the infections, generally caused by bacteria. Some of these infections occur in skin, lung, ear, urinary and throat. At certain occasions, Generic Cefaclor works well for treating pneumonia too. Generic Cefaclor is known by other names such as Generic Ceclor, Generic Keflor, Generic Distaclor etc.

What are the indications for use of Generic Cefaclor?
Generic Cefaclor belongs to the family of antibiotics which is known as cefalosporins. These are known to be broad-spectrum antibiotics which are mainly used for treating septicemia, biliary-tract infections, meningitis, pneumonia, urinary-tract infections and peritonitis. Pharmacologically, cefalosporins are similar to penicillin, as the excretion is mostly renal. Cefaclor is known to be active against most of the bacteria such as Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. Mainly, in case of infections in certain body portions such as otitis media, urinary or lower respiratory tract, skin structure, tonsillitis etc., Generic Cefaclor is advised to be used.

When should one take Generic Cefaclor?
Medical practitioners generally advise Generic Cefaclor for reducing the development of drug-resistant bacteria. This medicine is advised to be used for infections which are proven or strongly suspected to be caused due to bacteria. Dosage wise, adults should not take more than 250 – 500 mg. in every 8 hours. However, the dosage can be doubled in case of severe infections. In case of pediatric patients, the total consumption should not exceed 20 mg in a day and the dosages should be divided in every 8 hours.

How to Take Generic Cefaclor?
Generic Cefaclor is consumed orally and it comes in form of liquid. The medicine should be stored inside a refrigerator, away from direct sunlight exposure.

What are the contraindications for using Generic Cefaclor?
If the patient has a history of immediate hypersensitivity reaction, it is advised not to take Generic Cefaclor.

What are the side effects of Generic Cefaclor?
The major side effect is known to be hypersensitivity among patients. It has also been reported that children has suffered from serum sickness-like reaction after consuming Generic Cefaclor. Some of the other known side effects of Generic Cefaclor are: gastrointestinal disturbances such as vomiting, diarrhea, disturbances in liver enzymes, abdominal discomfort, cholestatic jaundice, transient hepatitis etc., Stevens-Johnson syndrome and headache. In some rare cases, nervousness, epidermal necrolysis and blood disorders have also been reported.
