When is Ciplox prescribed?
Ciplox is prescribed for the treatment of UTIs, including acute uncomplicated cystitis in women and chronic bacterial prostatitis in men; pyelonephritis; bronchitis; acute sinusitis; pneumonia; infectious diarrhea; typhoid fever; gonorrhea; complicated intra-abdominal infections; bone and joint infections; skin and skin structure infections. The drug can be prescribed to reduce the progression or incidence of anthrax after exposure to inhaled Bacillus anthracis.
How to take Ciplox?
Ciplox dosage depends on nature and severity of infection and the susceptibility of the causative microorganism. The median effective dose for the majority of infections is 500 mg twice daily for 7-14 days. The course of administration is also determined by the severity of infection. Complicated infections may require a more prolonged therapy regimen. The median pediatric dosage is 10-20 mg/kg of body weight. The drug is taken by mouth regardless to meals.
What are Ciplox side effects?
Ciplox may spur the following side effects: headache, rash, stuffy nose, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion and heartburn. Infrequent but serious side effects are muscle or joint problems; tendon rupture, swelling, bruising or pain; photosensitivity, blurred vision, confusion, sleeping difficulty, seizures and liver problems.
What are Ciplox contraindications?
Ciplox is contraindicated in coadministration with Tizanidine. The antibiotic shouldn’t be prescribed to people with a known hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or any quinolone drug. The drug can interact with certain antacids, corticosteroids and vitamins, which can reduce the efficacy of medication or increase the incidence of side effects.
