Fincar is mainly prescribed to BPH patients to treat lower urinary tract symptoms that include frequent urination, weak flow and the feeling of incomplete bladder emptying. Fincar may also be taken to treat male pattern baldness (MPB). Its active component is Finasteride, which inhibits the enzyme that helps convert testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a primary contributing factor to prostate enlargement and hair loss.
What is Fincar?
Fincar is an androgen hormone inhibitor applied in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It comes in tablets for oral administration with 5 mg of Finasteride as key ingredient. The drug works by inhibiting the formation of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone, thus causing the prostate to shrink and thereby reducing the BPH symptoms.
When is Fincar prescribed?
Fincar is prescribed for symptomatic treatment of BPH in men to improve symptoms, including frequent urination at night and incomplete emptying, and to reduce the risk of acute urinary retention, as well the need for prostate surgery, including prostatectomy and transurethral resection of the prostate gland. The drug is often prescribed concomitantly with alpha-blockers to reduce the risk for symptomatic progression of BPH.
How to take Fincar?
Fincar is administered once daily regardless to meals. Pills should be taken at approximately one and the same time each day. If you missed the dose, take it as soon as you remember, but do not double it. The medication administration course usually lasts for 6 months or more to determine the therapeutic results of the treatment. Untimely withdrawal of the drug usually reverses the therapeutic benefits within half a year. For the drug to work properly, take it as prescribed by your urologist.
What are Fincar side effects?
Fincar is usually well tolerated though it may spur some mild and transient side effects as impotence, decreased libido and decreased ejaculate amount. Less frequent side effects are breast enlargement and breast tenderness, testicular pain and allergy, including skin rash, hives or wheezing. You may experience none of the drug side effects. However, if any side effects occur, report to your urologist about them.
What are Fincar contraindications?
Fincar is contraindicated to patients known to be allergic to Finasteride. It is either not intended for use in women and can pose risk to the fetus. Women shouldn’t even touch broken or crushed tablets due to the possibility of the drug to absorb through skin. Tell your healthcare provide if you have liver disorders before taking the drug, as it can built up in patients with liver failure or cirrhosis. The drug does not prevent from cancer.
