What is Floxin?
Floxin is an antibiotic drug used to treat bacterial infections in various parts of the body. Antibiotics are drugs that fight bacterial infections, but Floxin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, which means that it is synthetic in nature and is suited to treat a broad range of infections. Floxin was first produced under the name of Oxfloxacin, as a more universal alternative to norfloxacin, another fluoroquinolone antibiotic. The drug itself is a hybrid of levofloxacin and dextrofloxacin. It was patented in 1982 and was approved for marketing by the FDA in 1990. What is the dosage of Floxin?
Floxin is normally supplied as 200 mg or 300 mg tablets, which should be taken orally with a glass of water. Dosage differs based on the health issue being treated. For cystitis and UTI’s, the standard dose is 200 mg a day. For infections of the urethra and cervix, prostatitis, the standard dose is 300 mg. 400 is the standard for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, Community-acquired pneumonia, skin infections and gonorrhea. In rare cases, Floxin is sold as eye or ear drops to treat infections in those areas.
